Rochester 5th Ward Information

In an attempt to close the gap between city government and its citizens, especially those I represent in Rochester's Fifth Ward, I will try to provide timely updates on issues and concerns that are under consideration for council action as well as any specific concerns you bring to my attention.

Parkwood Hills Forming Neighborhood Watch

A few recent events in the normally quite Parkwood Hills neighborhood brought neighbors together earlier tonight to talk about forming Neighborhood Watch groups.

For security reasons I won't mention names but if you are a Parkwood Hills resident and want to know more about this contact me and Ill have someone from the neighborhood get back to you. If you want more info about Neighborhood Watch (NW) then contact me or, better yet, contact Crime Prevention Specialist, Darrel Hildebrant at 507 281-6056.

Neighborhood Watch groups are especially helpful in getting to know your neighbors -- know who belongs in the area and who might not -- who should have a moving truck moving furniture and who shouldn't (really has happened) -- who's on vacation ... etc.

NW groups should have a couple of meetings a year to review and get updated on crime prevention techniques for around the house. Some basic things like keeping your outside lights on during the night or having a motion sensor could prevent a break in. Keep your cars locked even in your driveway, take the keys out and even lock your car while in your garage. Stuff like that might help.

There are regularily scheduled classes for block captains and a couple of Parkwood residents are going to attend. A follow up organizational meeting is planned for November 23 at 7 pm and if you are interested contact me.
